Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 20, 2026

1. Introduction

Verbi ("Verbi," "we," "our," or "us") is operated by PedroTech, a company incorporated in Canada. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Verbi mobile application, the Verbi web application, and our website at appverbi.com (together, the "Service").

We handle personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, provincial privacy legislation.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

We collect information that you provide directly to us, including:

  • Account information from sign-in (such as email address, name, and profile photo when provided by Google or Apple)
  • Optional profile details you enter during onboarding (such as a first name) and language or learning preferences
  • Onboarding responses: learning goals, exam interest, skill level, motivation, other apps used, feature interests, and how you heard about Verbi
  • Learning progress: saved words, quiz and game results, alphabet or script practice results, streaks, and skill progress
  • Voice and chat content: voice session transcripts and scores may be stored with your account; texting-style chat messages are processed to deliver the feature and are not retained on our servers after the session ends
  • Feedback you submit (title, description, optional contact email, and optional screenshots)
  • Timezone, notification schedule, and other in-app settings
  • Subscription and entitlement status (payment details are processed by Apple, Google, or our payment partners; we do not store full payment card numbers)

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

When you use the Service, we may automatically collect:

  • Device and browser information (such as model, operating system, app or browser version, and device or advertising identifiers where permitted)
  • Microphone audio during voice practice (streamed in real time to AI providers so we can transcribe and respond; see Section 5)
  • Usage data: features used, session duration, practice modes, quiz scores, and in-app interactions
  • Analytics events, feature-flag or experiment assignments, and error or crash reports
  • On mobile, marketing attribution signals when you allow tracking (for example, App Tracking Transparency on iOS)
  • On our website, limited site analytics such as page views and basic traffic metrics

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service and its features
  • Power AI voice and text features, including real-time conversation, transcription, scoring, translations, and generated explanations
  • Evaluate speaking, grammar, and listening performance and show in-app progress estimates
  • Track your progress and personalize your learning experience
  • Process subscriptions, free trials, and purchase events through app stores and our billing partners
  • Send transactional emails related to your account or trial (such as trial reminders), where permitted
  • Run analytics, A/B tests, and measure marketing campaign performance
  • Debug issues, respond to support requests, and improve reliability
  • Send notifications and reminders (with your consent where required)
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. App Permissions

Depending on the platform and features you use, the Service may request:

  • Microphone: real-time voice conversation and voice lessons
  • Camera / Photos: optional feedback screenshots and saving or sharing study cards
  • Notifications: learning reminders, streaks, and trial-related alerts
  • Screen Time / Family Controls (iOS): optional focus mode and app-blocker features. App selections for focus mode are processed on your device; we do not receive the names of apps you choose to block
  • Tracking (ATT on iOS): ad attribution and campaign measurement when you allow tracking

You can change or revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. Some features may not work without the relevant permission.

5. AI & Voice Processing

Verbi uses third-party AI services to power voice and text learning features. When you use voice conversation or voice lessons, your microphone audio is streamed over a secure connection to AI providers for real-time transcription, conversation responses, and lesson delivery.

Voice session scoring, texting-style chat practice, translations, and grammar feedback are processed by AI providers on our behalf. Conversation text from voice sessions may be stored with your account along with in-app scores. Texting chat content is processed during your session but is not retained on our servers after the session ends.

Speaking and listening scores, CEFR-style band labels, and similar metrics shown in the Service are automated estimates only. They are not official language certifications.

6. Advertising & Tracking

On iOS, we may request App Tracking Transparency permission before using an advertising identifier for ad attribution and campaign measurement. If you decline tracking, we do not access your advertising identifier for that purpose, though aggregated analytics and platform attribution mechanisms permitted by Apple may still occur.

We may share purchase and trial events with our attribution and analytics partners to measure marketing performance. Onboarding responses about how you heard about Verbi may also be used for product analytics.

You can opt out of cross-app tracking on iOS via Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Analytics and product-improvement data may still be collected in aggregated or de-identified form when permitted by law.

California residents may have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA. To exercise this right, contact us at support@appverbi.com.

7. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share information with service providers who process data on our behalf, limited to what is needed to operate the Service. These may include providers of:

  • Authentication, cloud hosting, databases, and file storage
  • Product analytics, error reporting, and feature flags
  • Subscription and payment processing (including Apple, Google when available, and our billing partners)
  • Marketing attribution and campaign measurement
  • AI inference for voice, transcription, scoring, chat, translations, and feedback
  • Transactional email delivery (such as trial reminders)
  • Website hosting and site analytics

Our service providers are authorized to use personal information only to perform services for us and must protect it appropriately.

We may also share information:

  • Legal Requirements: when required by law or to protect our rights
  • Business Transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets
  • With Your Consent: when you explicitly authorize us to share information (for example, when you use the system share sheet to share content off-platform)

8. Sharing & Support

Verbi does not include in-app forums, leaderboards, or public social feeds. You may optionally share words or study cards through your device's system share sheet. Content you share off-platform is subject to the policies of the service you choose.

If you submit feedback, your message, optional email, and any screenshots you attach are stored to help us investigate and improve the Service. Please do not include sensitive personal information in feedback unless necessary.

9. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including countries where our service providers operate (such as the United States). When we transfer personal information outside Canada, we take steps designed to protect it in a manner comparable to the protections required under Canadian privacy law, including contractual safeguards where appropriate.

  • Account, learning progress, and voice session transcripts or scores: retained until you delete your account
  • Feedback and related attachments: retained until your account is deleted or we no longer need them for support
  • Texting chat content: not stored on our servers after the session ends
  • Analytics, attribution, and email delivery records: retained according to our operational needs and our providers' configurations
